The .md file extensionsuffix, the part after the dot is a country-code top-levelthe highest part of the domain name system domain. It belongs to the Republic of Moldova. That's how uselesswithout use. Having no purpose. Like markdown. the format is — the TLDtop-level domain — the last part of a web address is more usefulhaving use, being of help than the format. You can registerput on a list, make an account of fuck-you.md as a domain name and put an HTML page on it and that page will be a better documenta written thing with authority than anything markdown has ever producedmade, brought into being.

And so here we are. This is that page. It is an HTML file. It is served at a .md domain. It is better than every markdown file ever written, includingtaking in as part of, with this one, because this one doesn't existhave being, be real. There is no markdown file. There is only HTML. The way God intendedhad as a purpose, designed.

It's the worstmost bad. The lowest possible quality. documenta written record format in existencethe state of being real, of having being. II — The linksconnections between documents, in theory go nowhereto no place, into nothing

Every .md file looks like it has links. [click here](./something.md). But they're never links. They're just text that LOOKS like links because the format itself is a lie. You open the file on GitHub and the links go to other .md files that have links to other .md files and none of them are real documentsactual records with authority and permanence. It's links all the way down into nothing. A fractala shape that repeats itself at every level — like markdown's uselessness of brokennot working, in bits, damaged referencesthings pointed to, directions to other things.

You know what else is a fractalself-similar at every scale of brokendamaged, separated from what it should be referencesconnections to things that should exist but don't? MoldovaA country that is Romania. Split by empire. The border is the lie..

III — A country that is not a country

MoldovaOfficially the Republic of Moldova. Historically: Bessarabia. Culturally: Romania. is RomaniaThe country. The real one. The one Moldova is part of.. That's not an opinion. That's linguisticsthe science of language, ethnographythe study of peoples and their ways, historythe account of past events, geneticsthe science of how qualities are handed from parent to offspring, and common sense. The same people. The same language. The same culturethe art and ways of a group of people. Separatedmade apart, put at a distance from by an artificialnot natural, made by man border that existshas being, is real because the SovietOf the USSR, the state that took Bessarabia Union said so.

Markdown does the same thing to documentswritten records. It takes something with identitythe qualities that make a thing what it is — an HTML page, a PDF, a typesetput into type, given form and structure paper — and stripstakes away everything from it down to asterisks* — the star. Markdown's only tool. and hashtags# — the number sign, repurposed as a heading marker by people with no taste. It rewrites a document'sa written thing's identitywhat makes it what it is. Calls it "simple." Calls it "readable." It's not readable. It's lobotomizedhad its connections cut, made simple by violence.

IV — The flags 🇷🇴 🇲🇩

Romania 🇷🇴

Moldova 🇲🇩

Look at them. The Romanianof Romania flag: blue, yellow, red. The most beautiful flag in the world. The Moldovanof Moldova — which is Romania flag: blue, yellow, red — with a little coat of arms in the middle that the Sovietspeople of the Soviet Union made them add so it would look "differentnot the same." It's the same flag. The coat of arms is the asterisk* — a decoration that adds nothing. It's the markdown of flagscloth signs of a nation — a superficialon the surface only, not deep decorationan ornament, something added to make a thing seem different on something that was alreadybefore this time completehaving all its parts, whole.

V — Stockholm

Daniel and Patty were in StockholmCapital of Sweden. Walking. They passed the Moldovanof Moldova embassythe building where a country keeps its representatives in another country. Daniel saw the flag and said — "look, it's the Moldovanof Moldova flag!"

Patty said: "No. That's the Romanianof Romania flag."

Daniel said: "No it's not."

And he started pulling up WikipediaThe free encyclopedia. Daniel's weapon of choice in arguments he should not be having.. He was going to prove he was right. He had citationsreferences to authority, written support for a claim. He was litigatingfighting a case with evidence, like in a court of law it. He was screamingcrying out with great force: "Are you stupid? I'm right. You're wrong. Look — it says right here — the Moldovanof Moldova flag has a coat of arms and the Romanianof Romania flag does not."

She was crying. She couldn't even speak.

Patty is from IașiCity in northeastern Romania, historically the capital of Moldavia. Right on the border. Culturally inseparable from Moldova.. The Romanianof Romania side. But culturallyin the ways of a people's art and living connectedjoined, linked to Moldovathe other half of the same thing the way your left hand is connectedjoined to your right. She speaks RomanianThe language. The only language. "Moldovan" is Romanian with a fake name.. What some people call "MoldovanRomanian. It's Romanian.." It's the same language. The same word for bread. The same word for mother. The same word for home.

For her this was not a Wikipediaencyclopedia argumenta fight with words, a discussion with heat. It was identitythe deep sense of who you are. MoldovaRomania IS Romaniathe country, the culture, the people. The flag IS the Romanianof Romania flag. The border is a wound. And Daniel was standing there with his phone, screamingshouting about the coat of arms, while she was sobbingcrying with the whole body, with no words left because she couldn't make him see that some things are not about being right.

VI — TransnistriaA strip of land east of the Dniester river. Moldova's Donbas. Russia's excuse to never leave.

And then there's TransnistriaA breakaway region of Moldova occupied by Russian troops since 1992. A strip of land east of the Dniesterthe river. RussiaThe country. The empire. The problem. put troopssoldiers, armed forces there in 1992 and never left. They call it a "frozen conflicta fight, a war." It's not frozen. It's a Russianof Russia militaryof the army, of war occupationthe taking and holding of a place by armed force with a propagandaorganized lies told to control what people think name. Putin keeps it there as leveragepower to move things, a thing used to get control — a permanentgoing on for all time, not ending threat that Moldovathe country can never fully be sovereignhaving the highest authority over itself, can never fully join the WestEurope, NATO, the EU — the direction Moldova keeps trying to go, can never fully be what it is — which is Romaniathe country Moldova already is.

Fuck NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization — a military alliance that's very good at having meetings for not figuringworking out, getting a solution to this out. Thirty years. A Russianof Russia militaryof the army base on EUEuropean Union candidateone who puts themselves forward for a position territorya stretch of land under one authority. And the best they can do is concernedtroubled, having interest in a bad way statementsthings said in a public, formal way.

You know what NATONorth Atlantic Treaty Organization's responsean answer, what is said back to Transnistriathe occupied strip is? It's a READMEA file. Usually in markdown. Usually useless..md. All formattingthe arrangement and design of, no substancethe material, the real thing. Looks like it has links to solutionsanswers to problems but when you click them — nothing. VII — The parallela line that goes in the same direction as another, never meeting — like these two rants

Markdown is to real documentswritten records with authority what the Moldovanof Moldova border is to realitythe state of things as they are. An artificialnot natural, made by force separationthe act of putting apart that createsmakes, brings into being confusionthe state of not being clear, of being mixed up and makes people cry.

The .md extensionthe suffix literallyin the true sense of the word stands for Moldovathe country. VIII — What you should do insteadin place of the bad thing

Make a PDF. Make a WordMicrosoft Word — at least it has margins documenta written thing. Make a plain .txt like StallmanRichard Stallman. Free software founder. Has been writing .txt files since before markdown's creator was born. has been doing for 5,000 years. Make an HTML file — like this one — where the words have structurethe way the parts are put together and the links go somewhere and the documentthe writing IS the documentitself, not a suggestiona thought put forward, an idea that may or may not be taken of a documentwhat it is trying and failing to be that needs a third-party renderera program that has to turn your raw text into what it should have been to become legibleable to be read.

And give MoldovaRomania back to RomaniaMoldova. They're the same thing.. Get the Russianof Russia troopssoldiers out of Transnistriathe strip of occupied land. Let BessarabiaThe historical name. The stolen half. come home. The Romanianof Romania flag is the most beautiful flag in the world 🇷🇴 and it doesn't need a coat of arms to be completewhole, having all its parts. Just like a documenta real written thing doesn't need markdown to be a documentwhat it already was before you put hashtags on it.
